    Congradulations UTSA String Project!

Welcome to the UTSA String Project website! Available here is general information on the project along with class schedules and admission forms. For further information, questions, or comments please contact one of the String Project directors.

Every year numerous string teaching jobs are either left vacant or are filled, of necessity, by someone unqualified. The National String Project Consortium was created in 1998 by ASTA (American String Teachers Association) and NSOA (National School Orchestra Assocation) to help alleviate the string teacher shortage and to promote string eduation in public schools.

UTSA's String Project began in 2002 under the direction of UTSA music faculty Gene Dowdy (Founding Director) and Andrea Yun. It was originally funded through FIPSE (The Funds for the Improvement of Post Secondary Education) and currently stands on its own. With over 100 students the project allows UTSA string music education majors the opportunity to develop skills needed to become successful and powerful educators. The UTSA String Project begins students on stringed instruments before fifth grade and aims to service San Antonio schools where no string programs exist.
