Music Studies/Music Education
Leading to Teacher Certification

The Bachelor of Music with a concentration in Music Studies is founded on the belief that excellent music teaching is predicated on excellent musicianship. Students preparing to be Band, Choir, or Orchestra directors combine classroom music study, academics, education classes, and performance training.

Admission to the Teacher Certification Program is highly selective and is based on students' demonstration of knowledge and skills in performance, conducting, music theory, music history, and keyboard.  Once admitted to the upper-level certification program, students participate in professional development courses in music education, including extensive field experience in the public schools.
