Theory & Composition

Christine Amos Linial joined the music faculty as an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2007. She holds a Ph.D. in Music Theory from the University of Texas at Austin, an M.A. in Music Systems from San José State University, and a B. M. in Voice Performance from Indiana University. Before joining the music faculty at the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2007, Dr. Linial served on the faculty at Cabrillo College and the Crane School of Music at the State University of New York at Potsdam. She has also held positions at the Ira F. Brilliant Center for Beethoven Studies and the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center, with a focus on their French and music holdings. Dr. Linial’s dissertation established a new system for analyzing the polytonal works of Darius Milhaud. Her research focuses on French music from the interwar period and popular music, including film soundtracks. She has guest lectured and presented at regional, national, and international conferences, including the College Music Society, The International Association for the Study of Popular Music, American Musicological Society, and the Society for Music Theory. Dr. Linial teaches undergraduate and graduate music theory courses at UTSA, with a specialization in Twentieth Century Music.
