Strings

The UTSA Department of Music offers a Bachelor of Music with an emphasis in String Performance. Upon successful completion of an audition on violin, viola, 'cello, or double bass; students are welcomed into the studio to receive private instruction on their instrument. In addition to participating in the UTSA Orchestra and String Ensemble, students receive the complement of courses in keyboard, music theory and history, literature, and pedagogy. There are numerous performance opportunities at UTSA and in the San Antonio community. Teaching opportunities also exist through the UTSA String Project. String students work weekly with beginning string players at the Main Campus and the Downtown Campus. The capstone experience is a senior recital. Graduates of a BM with an emphasis in String Performance have been accepted into competitive graduate programs throughout the United States and have continued in careers of music performance and education.
