Keyboard Studies

Students at UTSA experience numerous opportunities in the areas of both performance and pedagogy that prepare them for their future professions.

Our students are active performers on and off campus. They have been featured as soloists with UTSA Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Chamber Orchestra, as well as other regional symphony orchestras. Our former students have also earned prizes in competitions such as the Mid-Texas Symphony Young Artist Competition, the Kingsville Young Performers Competition, the Corpus Christi Young Artists Competition, the Sorantin Young Artist Competition, the Texas Music Teachers Association Performance Contests, and others.

In addition to these opportunities as soloists, students enjoy a variety of collaborative experiences at UTSA. Our students have played as members of the UTSA Orchestra, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble. They also participate as pianists for opera rehearsals and productions, small chamber groups, and vocal and instrumental student performances.

Our piano pedagogy program provides a wide range of courses and activities to prepare our students for all levels of teaching. Our curriculum includes up to 9 hours of undergraduate courses as well as an MM and Graduate Certificate in Keyboard Pedagogy. Because our student body is so diverse, ranging from undergraduates to professional teachers, the program aims to apply to professional needs as well as provide a solid core curriculum. Students receive consistent feedback and one-on-one guidance from our faculty, have access to our growing pedagogy library, and have the opportunity to work in our updated keyboard laboratory.
