Introduction
to Electronic and Computer Music
Final Project
NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE
ACCEPTED
GOAL: Working alone, using the equipment in
the studio, create a piece at least five
minutes long using a variety of equipment and computer programs.
·
If you wish to
use equipment you own, that is fine, but you must also use some of the studio's
equipment.
·
Review the
suggestions in the project 2 instructions.
·
Some additional
advice:
1.
Try to make a piece
of music. Consider this especially when gathering your sound sources – they should
work together, but on the other hand it’s tough to have too many different
timbres.
2.
Try to use some
of the music you've listened to this semester as models for your piece.
3.
Make this an electronic
piece - if it could be played by real people live, you might as well write your
music for real people to play live.
I will
grade you on
·
adherence to
these instructions,
·
creativity,
·
the technical
ability demonstrated, including logical use of the software, and
·
musicality
To hand in:
·
A CD-R recording
of your finished piece, and
·
a typed/word
processed paper with a short description of what you did and what equipment and
software you used; if desired, you may include a program note. Also include the
names of any people who provided audio or assistance (with information about
the nature of the assistance).
NOTE: For all projects, there
is a ban on the use of overly repetitive patterns. This includes drum loops or
repetitive beats and all but the most limited forms of ostinati.
All final projects will be performed for the
class during our finals period after our listening quiz.
