The conference hotel is Amerisuites. Scroll down to the bottom of this page for other hotel options near UTSA. The UTSA campus is far away from the tourist center of San Antonio, and the Amerisuites hotel is about a 5 minute ride from campus. Some of you may want to stay on or near the Riverwalk (or at other locations), which is about 30 minutes from campus if traffic isn’t too bad; I don’t not have information about those hotels and B&Bs, but that information is readily available elsewhere.

If you are flying into the San Antonio International Airport (SAT), I advise you to rent a car (or share a rental), because:

• There is only one hotel (the Comfort Inn) within walking distance of the Department of Music, but that walk is not a safe one, involving crossing Texas’ infamous access roads and passing under a 4 lane highway; and it’s a long walk across most of the campus. I’ve done it, to see if it could be done, but I would not recommend it – when don’t want to lose any SCI members.
• There will be a shuttle to and from the conference hotel, but only once a day. And the hotel will not pick you up at the airport.
• You may want to enjoy some of the tourist elements of San Antonio (there are no events scheduled for Saturday morning for just such excursions).
• Lastly, and most importantly, there are no restaurants within walking distance of campus, and my guess is you will want to eat.

Enclosed is a guest parking permit for you car; display this when you park on campus. Please do not lose this.

1. From Airport Blvd. proceed to Loop 410 West (Turn Right to enter onto 410 West)
2. Go approx 4.5 miles to IH 10 West El Paso/San Angelo (right hand exit)
3. Go approx 6 miles to UTSA Blvd. Exit #557
4. Turn Left onto UTSA Blvd.
5. Proceed past Costco and Valero Way (light)
6. Take the first right hand turn onto the UTSA campus.
7. Turn left onto the campus street O’Neil Ford
8. Take either of the first right hands turns into parking lot 8 – this is where you can park with the parking permits, but only in Student B spots.
9. Walk up the sidewalk and up the flight of stairs
10. The Recital Hall is in the building immediately to the right marked Recital Hall. Enter here into the main hall of the Arts Building. Registration should be available here.
11. For handicapped parking, please call 210-458-4354

If you have equipment you need to unload or load, go straight after turning into UTSA from UTSA Blvd. and continue up the hill. This is the "back" of the Music area of the Arts Building. You can load and unload here, but cannot park (use your hazard signals and pull up to the doorway; do not park in a parking space).

1. Get on IH 10 West (a right hand turn) from the hotel.
2. Exit at UTSA Blvd. (#557)
3. Follow the directions from step 4 above.

To return to the hotel from UTSA, you will need to exit IH 10 East at Wurzbach Road, go under the highway (left turn), and take the access road for IH 10 West (left turn again) back to the hotel.

If you need other directions (for example, if you are driving into San Antonio from the direction of Austin or Houston), please contact David Heuser or the UTSA Department of Music for directions.

The conference dinner will be at the Scenic Loop Café on Friday, February 25, 2005. The dinner will be a buffet, and the main courses will be "Avocado Chicken" and "Vegetable Empanadas with Poblano con Crema" (which is a vegetarian entree). If you have special dietary needs, please let me know, and the restaurant may be able to accommodate them. The cost of the meal is $25.00.

Comfort Inn – This is the closest hotel to UTSA and technically you can walk from here to the Music Building, but be forewarned that it is not a short walk and it requires that you cross two access roads (i.e. you will cross under a highway).
