You can select the type of data you wish to record in the record filter option which is under the setups menu.
The two record modes are real-time recording and step recording. You can also choose between Replace and Overdub. You can toggle between these two in the Record Mode pop-up menu in the Control bar. If you choose Replace you will record over everything already in the record-enabled track during the time you are recording. Overdub will add whatever you record to what is already in the track. Don't forget, you can also Punch record.
Set your Metronome. When doing this, you can have Vision produce a click while recording.
If you want a countoff, set this in the Begin Record Toggle on the Control Bar. You can also set Vision to wait for your first note to begin recording.
Make sure the correct track is record enabled. Click the Record button.
If you want to quantize your input, select Input Quantize Enabled in the Setups menu. To set the parameters of the quantization, select Quantize Input in the Quantize Menu. For more information see p. 192 in the Vision MIDI Manual.
After making sure the correct track is record enabled, click the Record button. A Step Record window appears. Using the mouse or number keypad short cuts (where 1=whole note), set the rhythmic value you want and, if desired, the velocity. Play a note or chord on the MIDI keyboard. Continue these steps until finished. For more about Step Record, see chapter 26 in the Vision MIDI manual.
You can also set the loop record function to continuously loop some segment of a track. This allows you multiple tries at recording a difficult or complicated segment of music.
