TASCAM DM-24

1. When you power on the studio, the board should come on. If not, the power switch is in the back of the board, on the lower right side. Do not touch the board when it powers up and calibrates the faders.

2. All of the patching on the board is programmed; nothing is hardwired. For most purposes you can use one of the basic patches which I have set-up. You can program your own patches or alter the basic patches to suit your needs.

3. To retrieve a basic patch (or any previously saved patch), hit the shift key and then library. Press the library soft button, and set the pop-up menu to "snapshot." Now the soft buttons allow you to retrieve a patch (the patch number is at the very top of the screen) or save a patch. There is one basic patch, Patch 004: Basic Patch

NEVER save your patches over this patch!

4. To view and change any patching, hit the shift key and the I/O (input/output) key. You are now looking at the patching. The soft buttons allow you to view and edit all of channels, aux sends and returns, and outputs.

5. To use the board simply as a mixer/amplifier, without eq, internal effects, etc., simply move the faders. There are three buttons to the right of the faders which change what the faders are controlling: input channels 1-16, 17-32, or the output. Don’t forget that there are pots at the top of the board as well for the analog inputs.

6. To do more with the channels, hit the "module" button to the left of the screen. Now when you press the "sel(ect)" button on top of a fader, you will be looking at that faders settings, allowing you to control panning, eq, and many other features.

7. For our 8-out devices (the 8-track connection to and from the Nigel Tufnel computer), the signal goes out of the board through the 8 busses. To assign a channel to one or more of these busses, press the assign button with the Shift button off. Use pod 4 for select or deselect busses for the channel that is highlighted. See p. 40 in the DM24 Owner’s Manual for more information

8. Some stereo pairs of faders have been linked in the basic patches. To unlink faders as stereo pairs (or to link any other faders), press shift and then link/grp. Press the soft button for ST LINK and simply press the SEL buttons for the faders you wish to link or unlink.
