Michael Richter holds a Master of Music degree in guitar performance from the University of Texas at San Antonio where he is presently on faculty as a Lecturer in the classical guitar program. In the 1970’s, Mr. Richter spent several summers in Houston, TX. where he studied with Pepe Romero. He has also studied with San Antonio legend David Underwood, musicologist/composer Michael Fink, and the composer and authority on guitar technique Matthew Dunne. His more than twenty years of experience as a guitar instructor has given him the opportunity to work with students at every level, and from almost every background. Mr. Richter has also performed throughout south Texas as a soloist as well as a member of the San Antonio Guitar Quartet. In 1999, the People to People Ambassadors program invited him to travel to China where he performed at the Children’s Palace in Xian and at the Shanghai Conservatory. In 2001, he journeyed to Italy to perform in Rome and Florence as an accompanist for the St. Gregory the Great Catholic School choir. Mr. Richter has also served as assistant director of the Southwest Guitar Festival (1992-2003), and the Guitar Foundation of America Guitar Festival in 2000. Presently, Mr. Richter teaches private instruction, guitar ensemble, guitar literature and guitar classes at UTSA, and he also composes music.
