Melody Rich

Soprano Melody Rich has been delighting audiences in South and Central Texas with a sparkling voice that spans the spectrum of musical styles. She has concertized extensively as a member of the Austin Lyric Opera Young Artist Program and has been heard in solo engagements with the Texas Chamber Consort, Musical Bridges Around the World, the San Antonio Choral Society, and various collegiate and academic conferences.  Her repertoire includes the Mozart Requiem, Mozart Mass in C minor, Bach B minor Mass, Haydn Mass in Time of War, Bruckner Mass in D minor and many more major works. In 2001, she graced the European stage singing performances with the AIMS Orchestra in Austria under the batons of Cornelius Eberhardt and Heiko Mathias. Her collaborations with contemporary recording artists include the televised CD Release Concerts for David Kauffman's Behold and William Gokelman's Steal Away, as well as the Jake Hill CD Smokin' Church Music.  

Melody Rich earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin where she studied under Gilda Cruz-Romo, Rose Taylor, and David Garvey. She has taught at the University of the Incarnate Word, at Interlochen Arts Camp for the University of Michigan All-State Musical Theatre and Choral Program, and has served at Christ Episcopal Church in San Antonio as a soloist and as the Associate Minister of Music. Dr. Rich's students have experienced success at numerous contests including the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Texas Music Educators Association All-State Auditions, and the Arts Recognition and Talent Search of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts.  Her musical horizons expand to include the position of Assistant Conductor of the San Antonio Choral Society. At UTSA, she teaches voice and diction courses and acts as Coordinator for the UTSA All-State Choir Camp and other Singing Artist Symposiums. Dr. Rich appears in the 2003-2004 Edition of Who's Who Among America's Teachers.
