Mary Ellen Cavitt received the Bachelor and Master degrees in music from The Juilliard School and Ph.D. in music education from The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Cavitt taught instrumental music at the middle and high school levels in the public schools in Texas. She has served as adjunct professor of horn at The University of Texas at Arlington and at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas and has performed professionally in several orchestras. In 1992, Dr. Cavitt was named Young Bandmaster of the Year by the Texas Bandmasters Association and Phi Beta Mu. She has served on the music education faculties of Michigan State University and The University of Arizona and coordinated the instrumental music programs for North East Independent School District in San Antonio, Texas. She is an active clinician and adjudicator in instrumental music and her work has been presented at regional, national, and international conferences in the fields of music education and music therapy. She is currently serving as Assistant Professor of Music Education at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Dr. Cavitt's teaching responsibilities include instrumental techniques, educational methods, and supervision of student teachers.
