
Chris Carrillo

Chris Carrillo holds a Master's degree from The University of Texas at Austin, a Bachelor's degree from The University of Memphis, and did additional studies in performance at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, Scotland. He has recently performed as principal trumpet with the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble and currently performs as principal trumpet with the Nexus Chamber Orchestra and the Barbwire New Music Project. As a strong advocate for new music, Mr. Carrillo has premiered works by John Corigliano, David Del Tredici, Kevin Puts, Frank Proto, Chinary Ung, Dan Welcher, and Young-Hwan Yeo. As an orchestral musician, Mr. Carrillo has performed with the Jacksonville (FL) and Victoria (TX) Symphonies as well as the Abilene Philharmonic, Opera Memphis, and Austin Lyric Opera. As a commercial musician, he has recorded several jingles for radio and television and performed as a local musician for the Broadway touring productions of Carousel, West Side Story, A Chorus Line, and Gypsy. He has performed with such varied artists as Marvin Hamlisch, Chuck Mangione, Toni Tenille, John Pizzarelli, and Bob Brookmeyer, and has toured throughout the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom in various commercial and chamber music settings. He is a former member of the Disney College Orchestra and an alumnus of the Festival Institute at Round Top. Currently, he is completing a Doctorate at The University of Texas at Austin as a Teaching Assistant for Ray Sasaki. His former teachers include Raymond Crisara, David Spencer, Albert Ligotti, and Edward Sandor.
